Sewing hobbyists from across the country come together for the second year at Loughborough University

The Stitchroom Sewcial welcomed more than thirty guests to its sold-out event at Loughborough University last month.

This is the second year that the event has taken place, after receiving praise from guests that attended in 2018.

It was originally organised as a way for the online dressmaking community to meet one another in real life and share their love and enthusiasm for sewing.

The two-day event – which was hosted in Loughborough’s Textiles Department – gave delegates the chance to take part in optional creative workshops such as print, photography and weave. Guests also had the opportunity to visit the University’s Arts Degree Show and hear from special guest Heather Jacks, who won the second series of The Great British Sewing Bee.

The event was led by Technical Tutor Anne Acosta and Technical Instructor Bee King from the School of the Arts, English and Drama, in partnership with online sewing store Sew Essential.

The proceeds from hosting the Stitchroom Sewcial have been used to purchase a specialized sewing machine which will be used by students within the School.

Anne Acosta commented: “We were overwhelmed by the popularity of the event this year; we even had some well-known TV personalities come and join us which created a special dynamic to the weekend.

“A massive thank you to all those who supported the event, and to the guests who made it an unforgettable weekend for all those involved. I hope to host yet another Stitchroom Sewcial next year with both new and old attendees.”
