Loughborough manager wins prestigious international award for research leadership

Research Policy Manager, Lizzie Gadd, was presented with the International Network of Research Management Societies (INORMS) Award for Excellence in Research Management Leadership at the ARMA Conference in Belfast last month.

She won the award for her work on improving the way research is evaluated both nationally and internationally.

The Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) host the awards to recognise outstanding research management leaders who have made an international impact.

She founded and chairs the Lis-Bibliometrics Forum, which led to the development of a blog – The Bibliomagician – which discusses responsible research evaluation. She also chairs the INORMS International Working Group on Research Evaluation and is co-champion of the ARMA Research Evaluation Special Interest Group.

She has a PhD in the impact of copyright ownership on scholarly communication and is both a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals.

Lizzie and the rest of the Research Policy Team at Loughborough University seek not only to work within the current policy environment, but also strive to change it in the best interests of both the University and the HE community as a whole.

When asked how it felt to win, Lizzie said: “It was a real honour to receive this award. I see it as a reflection of the support and opportunities I’ve been given at Loughborough to engage nationally and internationally with the responsible research evaluation agenda.”

Part of Lizzie’s prize is a trip to Hiroshima, Japan to attend the 2020 INORMS Congress for formal recognition of her award.
