New Director of Estates and Facilities Management appointed

Graham Howard has been appointed as the University's new Director of Estates and Facilities Management.

The Director of Estates and Facilities Management leads the strategic development and operational management of the University’s two campuses, in Loughborough and London.

Before his appointment at Loughborough, Graham was a director in KPMG’s management consulting operations practice based in Canary Wharf, London. He joined KPMG in 2015 after a full career in the Royal Air Force retiring in the rank of Air-Vice Marshal. Graham’s last military appointment was as the Assistant Chief of Defence Staff responsible for the logistics support of all UK Armed Forces in the UK and on global operations. His military career included a blend of operational leadership and pan-defence business focussed appointments.

Graham grew up and was educated in Spalding, Lincolnshire, and studied for an MA in Defence Studies at King’s College University of London.

He was appointed a Companion of the Honourable Order of the Bath (CB) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in 2014. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and as a senior RAF Reserve Officer, serves on Ministry of Defence Service Complaints Tribunal panels.

Whilst in the military, Graham led a nomadic life, moving role and home every two to three years, but has now settled in South Northamptonshire. He is married with three adult daughters.

Of his appointment, Graham said: “This is an exciting time to join Loughborough University and I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the Estates and Facilities Management team. I will be prioritising getting around the two campuses to meet everybody and my goals will be twofold: to sustain outstanding university campus facilities and to support delivery of the strategic estate transformation programme and capital projects.”
