Staff, students and members of the community invited to attend and be inspired by University’s annual STEM Day
Loughborough University will be once again holding its ever popular STEM Community Day – an event full of fun and inspiring activities linked to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday 16 March from 1pm-5pm and will be held on campus at the West Park Teaching Hub and the STEMLab.
There will be a range of workshops on offer during the day: from teaching guests how to make liquid nitrogen ice cream to helping them to build their own solar-powered cars.
In addition, there will also be numerous activities and demonstrations, including walking on custard and creating human-sized bubbles!
Although the events are mostly aimed towards school-age children, anyone is welcome to attend who is interested in learning more about STEM subject areas.
The free event – organised by the University’s School and College Liaison Team – aims to inspire those of all ages who have a thirst for trying new things and who hope to become the country’s next famous scientist or engineer.
Many of the workshops and demonstrations on the day will also be led by staff members from STEM-related departments at the University.
Anna Milewska and Emily Capewell, organisers of the event, commented: “The STEM Community Day is about celebrating British Science Week, and all aspects of science, technology, engineering and maths. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone on the day, and hope they will have a fun and educational experience.”

It is advised to book activities early to avoid disappointment, as the workshops have limited capacities and are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Schools who are interested in attending should email scl@lboro.ac.uk in the first instance.
