Loughborough confirmed as Disability Confident Employer

Loughborough has been awarded Disability Confident Employer status for a further two years, under the Government initiative that helps organisations recruit and retain skilled and talented disabled people and those with long-term health conditions.

Through the Disability Confident scheme, the Government is working with employers to remove barriers, increase understanding and ensure that disabled people have the opportunities to fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.

It is the second consecutive time that Loughborough has been awarded Disability Confident Employer status since the scheme began in 2016.

“We are really proud to have achieved this level again,” said Abida Akram, the University’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Adviser. “It sets out clearly our commitment to challenge attitudes to and increase understanding of disability, as well as our commitment to removing any barriers that disabled people and people with long-term health conditions might face in the workplace.”
