Student Village crowned the winner of the 2019 Charnwood Design Awards

Loughborough University’s Student Village was announced the overall winner of this year’s Charnwood Design Awards.

It received the accolade due to the contribution it makes to wellbeing, sustainability and place-making after a judging panel visited the site earlier in the year.

Chief Operating Officer Richard Taylor commented: “We were delighted to be shortlisted for the Charnwood Design Awards and enjoyed welcoming the judging panel to the Student Village.

“It was fantastic to find out the project had been chosen as the overall winner. The scheme was a complex project and a real team effort, so I’d also like to pass my thanks and congratulations onto our partners.”

Richard Bennett, Head of Planning and Regeneration at Charnwood Borough Council added: “I would like to congratulate our winners and all our finalists in this year’s awards.

“There has been an exceptional level of quality which is very encouraging to see. The Council is committed to improving the quality of design in the built environment because it has a significant impact on our communities. Outstanding design can help enhance our communities, stimulate the local economy and make Charnwood a better place to live, work and visit.

“We hold the Charnwood Design Awards to give deserved recognition to outstanding design and hopefully inspire other projects. This complements our existing work on a day-to-day basis to encourage good design when supporting applications in the planning process.”

The awards ceremony took place last week and other winners from the night included Fowke Street, Rothley and Mountsorrel Memorial Centre.
