International sports agents conference to be held at Loughborough University

Loughborough University is positioning itself as a global leader in the professional development of sports agents with the launch of a new international conference.

Last year, academics launched the world’s first educational programme for sports agents, backed by the Association of Football Agents (AFA) England, the Professional Certificate Programme for Sports Agents.

It has attracted hundreds of aspiring and practising sports agents.

Now, course leaders are launching the Loughborough Sports Agents Conference, which will be held on the main campus on September 24 and 25, 2020.

Programme director Dr Serhat Yilmaz, Lecturer in Sports Law in Loughborough’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences (SSEHS), said: “With the ongoing success of our professional certificate programme, we hope this conference will be a great addition to our educational framework for agents in sport.

“The objective is to establish and develop a platform where agents, experts and sport industry representatives can come together to engage in constructive dialogue and learn from each other.

“The conference will play an integral part in the programme and will welcome some of the industry’s leading names for a unique learning event.”

The event will feature round table discussions, expert panels and mini workshops on specific aspects of the agent work.

Keynote speeches by prominent figures from the world of sport will also be on the agenda.

Topics covered will be wide-ranging but strictly relevant to the agent industry and include:

  • Player transfers
  • Player/athlete representation
  • Welfare and safeguarding
  • Payer/athlete valuation
  • Talent ID and development
  • Performance analytics
  • Brand management of players/athletes

The event will be CPD-certified and will offer delegates an event-based learning experience.

The call for papers is open now and academics and industry experts are invited to make a submission for consideration by the conference’s scientific committee including Dr Kris ClementsDr Serhat YilmazDr Borja GarciaProfessor Chris Harwood and Richard Allen from Loughborough University.
