Louise Doherty
We are sad to inform colleagues that Louise Doherty, who worked in the Admissions Office and was a member of the Community Warden Team, died at the end of last week.
Louise, a Loughborough graduate, began working at the University in 1991. Initially her role involved supporting the undergraduate admissions process, helping organise school/college visits and shipping promotional material overseas. Following a short break to raise her family, Louise returned to the Admissions Office where she worked closely with colleagues in a wide range of academic Schools, guiding them through each stage of the admissions cycle with great care and professionalism. Throughout her long service to the University, Louise was hugely passionate about admissions, always fighting the corner of those from non-traditional backgrounds and using her warm personality to support and reassure applicants, parents, and teachers alike.
Louise was also passionate about the welfare and safety of students and following the launch of the Community Warden scheme became Deputy Community Warden for the Kingfisher and Herrick areas of Loughborough in 2005. For many students she provided a lifeline of support and she was also very well-known and liked by local residents.
If you would like support or to talk to someone, please be aware of the following University services:
- The Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is a telephone and on-line service that complements the University’s counselling service and is available 24/7.
- You can access the University Counselling Service by visiting the Bridgeman Centre between 8.30am and 5pm or via studentservices@lboro.ac.uk.
- The Centre for Faith and Spirituality is open for you to visit at any time for quiet reflection, prayer or to talk to one of the Chaplains.
Louise will be very much missed. Her enthusiasm and care were infectious and inspired all her colleagues on a daily basis.
