A day in the life of a Doctoral Researcher

The Doctoral College will be hosting a half-day event on 13 September at Graduate House, providing insight into the Doctoral Researcher experience.

All staff who support or represent Doctoral Researchers are welcome to attend.

The day aims to tackle questions about the nature of the research done, the contributions made and the challenges faced by Doctoral Researchers.

Dr Kathryn North, Head of Researcher Development, will open the event with a talk about the importance of Doctoral Researchers and how the Doctoral College supports them.

This will be followed by a talk on what it is like to be a Doctoral Researcher by Chris McLeod from School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Nicolette Formosa from the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering and Fiona Meeks from Loughborough London.

There will be a Q and A session followed by a presentation on the Doctoral Wellbeing and Support Project hosted by Dr Katryna Kalawsky.

The event will end with a session on reflection and planning.

Event organiser, Dr Katryna Kalawsky commented: “At Loughborough University we have approximately 1400 Doctoral Researchers based in all academic Schools. However, the Doctoral journey is not always well understood by those who support and represent them.

“The aim of this event is to demystify the experience so that more inclusive and tailored provision can be made for Doctoral Researchers.”
