A postgraduate student from Loughborough University will represent the UK at Red Bull’s international competition which takes place in Austria later this year.

Known as ‘the world’s most exciting paper plane competition’, Red Bull Paper Wings gives participants the opportunity to test their creativity, imagination and technical paper plane skills to compete for either the longest distance or the longest airtime.

Vince Scholl took part in the Loughborough University qualifier in March and secured the top position in the UK for the duration of airtime, recording 6.30 seconds.

Using just one piece of A4 paper modified by folding alone, he had only two attempts to record a top score.

Vince will travel to Salzburg for the final in May, which will take place at the iconic Hangar-7. The overall winner will be awarded a Red Bull Air Race weekend experience.

Over 384 universities in 64 countries have taken part in this year’s competition.

Talking about his success, Vince commented: “I love to compete and play all kinds of sports, that’s why I entered the competition.

“My friends and I went to West Park and sat there for a while trying to make a good paper plane – I was lucky and mine flew in the air for quite a while.

“I am really looking forward to going to Salzburg not only to compete in the world finals, but also to get an opportunity to try and secure a job with Red Bull too!”
