LU Arts to host events for budding poets and aspiring singer-songwriters next month
LU Arts will be hosting the renowned Speech Bubble and Acoustic Night events next month.
Speech Bubble is an opportunity for both experienced and inexperienced performing poets who wish to take to the stage to showcase their talent.
Open to students, staff, and the general public to attend, the event – which takes place on Monday 3 December - will also see professional poets Samuel King and Nate the Lyricist perform on the night.
Samuel King is a spoken word artist from London who has performed at shows across the UK. He has previously received coverage from the Guardian and the Huffington Post, and has also presented a TEDx talk on ‘If Young People Ruled the World’.
Nate the Lyricist is a musical artist and rapper. His latest single, Buy Blxck, talks particularly about the need to support current and future black entrepreneurs and businesses, and is available to stream on iTunes and Spotify.
Acoustic Nights is an open mic night taking place on 10 December and will be featuring some of the best singer-songwriter talent on campus and further afield. If you want to find out more about this event or wish to sign up for an open mic slot, email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk.
Both of the events will be led by three of the University’s LU Arts scholarship students, which were announced earlier this month.
Michael Asolo and Ada Ughanwa have been busy organising Speech Bubble, whilst Michael Harry has been making the final arrangements for the ever-popular Acoustic Night.

Talking about what to expect at the Acoustic Night, Michael Harry said: “If you are looking for an intimate musical setting, then Acoustic Night is the place to be. You just can’t get it wrong with a blend of wonderfully gifted artists in one place.”
Both events will take place from 7pm-9pm in Cognitos within the Loughborough Students’ Union Building, which is located on the University campus.
