STEM building wins innovative design award

Loughborough University’s STEM building has won an award for its innovative design.

The building was recognised as part of the RICS 2018 East Midlands Awards, where it won the category for ‘Design through Innovation’.

The results were announced earlier this month at the awards ceremony, where Loughborough University colleagues David Fulford, Director of Facilities Development, and Phil Sheppard, Clerk of Works (Building), collected the prize.

STEMLab is a £17m investment with state-of-the-art facilities for science, technology, engineering and mathematical teaching and research. The building opened last year and is one of the spaces on campus which truly reflect why the University is a top 20 research-led University in the UK.

The judges praised the flexibility of space available, the quality of laboratories and value for money. You can view the full list of winners by visiting the RICS website.

Professor Rachel Thomson, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Teaching said: “I’m so proud of our award-winning STEMLab, which is a testament to the dedication of the delivery team involved.

“Importantly, the building has provided new and exciting opportunities for students to learn and innovate across the STEM related disciplines.”

The building was designed by CPMG Architects and surveyed by Faithful+Gould.
