Loughborough University sponsors school sports event in Kenya

Loughborough University has recently supported a sports tournament which took place in Kenya last month.

One of the top schools in the country, St Andrew’s in Turi, organised a netball and rugby tournament with fourteen other schools which was sponsored by the University.

The school has a history of high achievement, encouraging students to have a strong sense of identity and mind-set to make a positive difference to the world, by taking part in extracurricular activities such as voluntary work, community projects and sport.

A number of their students have gone on to represent Kenya in international sporting competitions.

The University’s Sport Development Centre supplied team kit, rugby balls and netballs for the tournament, as well as a number of prizes for the schools participating in the competition.

Alicia Butterfield, Regional Manager from the International Office commented: “This year, Loughborough University was proud to sponsor the school’s annual Rugby and Netball tournament, hosted at St Andrew’s and attended by other top schools from across Kenya.

“Many of the students who took part are actively involved with competitive sport outside of school, balancing their sporting commitments with academic studies.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for Loughborough to show support for the role sport plays in the development of essential skills such as teamwork, determination and a spirit of healthy competition.

“Well done to all those who participated!”
