Reading Ahead Challenge launching Friday

The Reading Ahead Challenge is launching Friday 12 January.

Reading Ahead is an initiative led by the Reading Agency, which runs in different workplaces by UNISON and other literary programmes across the country.

The Challenge invites participants to pick six reads and record, rate and review them in a simple diary in order to complete the challenge. Those who fill in and return their diaries will be invited to a certification event in which Vice Chancellor Bob Allison will present them with an official certificate.

Students, staff, family and friends are all welcomed to get involved, with the initiative hoping to encourage participants to get into reading. It isn’t just about books – it’s about newspapers, magazines, poetry, journals and websites too.

The launch will be held in the Leonard Dixon Studio, Martin Hall, from 11:30am-1:30pm. You will be able to sign up for the challenge, collect your reading diary and chat to other participants.

Special guests include Deidre O’Byrne, lecturer in Twentieth Century Literature, and acclaimed author Kerry Young. Refreshments will also be available.
