LU Arts reveals exciting new Spring/Summer events programme

From an innovative screening of a 1920’s masterpiece to an English folk singer with a remarkable career, LU Arts’ new What’s On brochure has been released, featuring an exciting range of events.

The 2018 Spring/Summer programme gives staff, students and members of the public a glimpse of some of the diverse music, arts, film and comedy events taking place at the University over the coming months.

Brochure highlights include:

  • A concert with the renowned Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, on Saturday 10 March.
  • Robin Ince’s first new stand-up show in three years; ‘Pragmatic Insanity’ on Wednesday 9 May.
  • Three exciting National Theatre Live events – Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (22 February), Julius Caesar (22 March) and Macbeth (10 May) – which will bring world-class performances to Loughborough.
  • Battleship Potemkin (1925) with Matthew Trusler and Ashley Wass on Wednesday 30 May – a unique opportunity to see one of the most famous silent films accompanied by talented classical musicians.
  • Plus Maddy Prior in Concert with Giles Lewin and Hannah James on Wednesday 18 April. The trio will perform songs from their albums and highlights from Maddy’s impressive solo and band career.

A mix of talks, discussions and music events will also be taking place as part of (re)composition – Radar’s commissioning programme for 2017/18.

Radar is LU Arts’ contemporary arts programme that engages with academic research. The (re)composition project sees Radar working with academics from the Department of Geography to explore how music makes place, and place makes music.

Nick Slater, Director of LU Arts, said: “We have a fantastic range of events on offer in our coming season and I look forward to welcoming students, staff and members of the community to some of them. We are thrilled to have secured such an impressive line-up of talent.”

The Spring/Summer What’s On brochure can be viewed online here. Physical copies will also be appearing on campus in Martin Hall, Edward Barnsley Building, the Students’ Union, Halls, University departments’ and Professional Services’ receptions and in a number of arts venues and cafés in Loughborough town centre.
