Undergraduate students recognised for academic excellence at celebratory event

Over 20 students were invited to an event at the University to celebrate their academic achievements.

The dinner – which took place on Monday 26 November in the Hazlerigg Building – awarded the highest performing students from each School for each year of study (with the exemption of final-year students).

At the event, students had the opportunity to meet and celebrate with staff members from the University including Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Allison, representatives from each of the academic Schools as well as the Executive Officers from Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU).

Each student was presented with a certificate and a cheque for £500 at the event to acknowledge their outstanding performance in their undergraduate studies.

Talking about the students, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Teaching, Professor Rachel Thomson said: “I am constantly amazed at the range of activities that students undertake, and I am incredibly proud of all that they achieve both during their time at Loughborough and in their future careers.”

Civil Engineering student, Owen Wilson, said: “The Loughborough community is fantastic, and I have been able to meet a great group of people from student halls, my course and extra-curricular activities.”

Natalie Haytayan, who studies Graphic Communication and Illustration, added: “Being a student at Loughborough has given me confidence; I am more willing to take risks and to make difficult choices that I wouldn’t make before and to step outside of my comfort zone.”
