Student’s Christmas cards are raising money for a good cause

Final-year Graphic Communication and Illustration student Millie Middlebrook has used the skills developed during her course to create a set of cards which she hopes will raise money for the housing and homelessness charity, Shelter.

Millie said: “I chose the charity Shelter because for me, Christmas is a time when I find home to be the most special and precious place to be with my family and friends. Being at home in a warm and safe environment, celebrating with the ones we love is often something that we take for granted. So I really wanted to give back to those who aren't so fortunate to have a place to call home this Christmas.”

Inspired partly by the BBC’s recent Dynasties series, Millie’s cards are a twist on the classic reds and greens used at Christmas and are intended to reflect a sense of warmth and atmosphere. Both the illustration and typography are digitally hand-drawn using an iPad and a digital pencil, with different brushes and weights of pressure used to create a watercolour and ink effect.

Millie, who has founded Loved By Millie, is selling packs of five cards for £5.95 plus postage and packing if applicable - £1 from each sale will go to Shelter. To buy a pack, send a message to @lovedbymillie on Facebook or email millie@du-o.co.uk.
