Places available for next semester’s Creative Writing classes
Bookings are now open for the next series of Creative Writing classes.
Starting in January, the evening classes – which will run on Wednesdays from 7pm-9pm - are suitable for both beginners and those who are more advanced.
The classes will focus largely on fiction and poetry, but are open to anyone who would like to hone their creative writing skills in any form. The tutor, Marianne Cronin, is happy to adjust course content to suit students.
Marianne is a practising creative writer, with previous works published in Mslexia magazine and the Birmingham Journal of Literature.
The Creative Writing class was introduced for the first time earlier this year by LU Arts and, due to its success, they have decided to run classes again from next month.
One student commented: “I loved the creative writing classes, particularly the variety of exercises and the balance between being encouraged to read work out and there not being any pressure to do so.
“Marianne was very encouraging and created a laid-back, inclusive atmosphere. The exercises she suggested helped me to think about my writing in different ways – the ‘crusty mustard’(!) exercise was especially useful in helping me to stop procrastinating and start writing something I could work with.”
The 10-week course is priced at £50 for University students and £100 for the general public and University staff. Please note the booking system is on a strict first come, first serve basis. To secure a place, classes need to be paid at the time of booking which can be done by visiting the online store.
There are also spaces available for the Painting and Drawing classes. They start in January and will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for 10 weeks. More information can be found here.
