Students invited to apply for new music and art scholarships

From circus performers to ceramic artists and pianists to poets, creative students studying at the University are invited to apply for the varied and exciting scholarships on offer from LU Arts.

Open to all students from both the Loughborough and London campuses, the scholarships for the upcoming academic year are designed for students who are passionate about and committed to a particular art or music form and would benefit from additional support to help them develop their skills and knowledge further.

There are six music scholarships available – three are instrumental, two are choral and one is tailored to singer/songwriters.

For the first time this year, there will also be two art scholarships available:

  • Performing arts – open to those who participate in dance, acting or other performing art forms; and
  • Creative writing/spoken word – suitable for those interested in the different forms of creative writing and who would be interested in leading the twice yearly Speech Bubble poetry event.

The final scholarship is ‘open’ and is for those who do not fall into any of the specific music and art scholarships available, but are proficient within another musical genre or art form – such as composing, DJing or animation.

Those who are successful in applying for scholarships will receive a cash prize as well as a tailored programme of mentoring from numerous professionals.

In return, the recipients will be required to support and contribute to the creative life at the University by participating in and delivering events that showcase student talent.

Please note the ambition of the scholarships is to support students’ extra-curricular activities. As such, the scholarships are not open to students whose degree directly relates to the art form in which the scholarship is offered. Please email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk for clarification if you are unsure of your eligibility.

For more information or to apply for a scholarship, visit the LU Arts music scholarship and art scholarship webpages.

Students can only apply for one scholarship per year. Applications should be submitted no later than midday on Monday 15 October.
