Loughborough’s Professor Vicky Tolfrey receives International Paralympic Committee award
Professor Vicky Tolfrey was presented with an International Paralympic Committee award at the opening ceremony of the 2017 Vista Conference in Toronto, Canada.
Vicky received the IPC Paralympic Scientific Award, which recognises those who have significantly contributed to research conducted in the area of people with impairment in sport. For over 20 years, Professor Tolfrey has applied sport science to para athletes in training and is currently the Director of the University’s Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport.
The opening ceremony of the conference was attended by more than 300 guests from over 43 countries, who listened to Professor Tolfrey’s keynote address, ‘Pushing from Atlanta to Rio: Reflections of my Practitioner and Research Journey’.
The conference provides an opportunity for researchers and scientists to discuss Paralympic sport and this year included over 130 presentations linked to the theme of ‘Opportunities and challenges in Paralympic sport science and medicine support’.
Of the award Professor Tolfrey said: “I feel overwhelmed with receiving this award considering the great scientists that have received this before me. That said, it is recognition of a team effort achieved through the valued partnerships and collaborations that I have generated over the last 20 years, namely the Peter Harrison Foundation.”
