Cycle to Work Day 2017

Cycle to Work Day will be held on 13 September. The national event, now in its fifth year, encourages everyone to travel to work by bike.

Whether you cycle in every day, or it’s been a while since you ventured out on two wheels, colleagues are encouraged to take part.

As a thank you for getting involved, the Sustainability team will host a breakfast at the EHB atrium between 8 – 9:30am on the day.

Why cycle?

Cycling is good for the body and mind in many ways. Regular cycling can help to reduce stress levels and improve overall fitness.

There are huge environmental benefits as well – a bike takes 6.2 tonnes less carbon to produce than a car, helps reduce congestion and improves air quality.

Need a bike?

Loughborough staff can access savings of up to 42% on the cost of buying a bike through the Cycle2work scheme.

The scheme also allows employees to purchase a bike and safety accessories up to the value of £1000 tax-free, and can be paid monthly through salary sacrifice over an 18-month period.

Prizes to be won

Send a photo of your cycle commute to the Sustainability team via Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and be in with a chance of winning one of three safety bundles worth £70, which includes a hi-vis jacket, bike pump, multi-tool, wash, protect and lube kit and bike light set.

As well as the University competition, participants can pledge to cycle on the Cycle to Work Day website to win a host of prizes from cycling holidays to top-quality equipment.
