Loughborough’s youth express their thoughts on Brexit through artworks
Loughborough University will be holding an exhibition and panel discussion that showcases the views of young people on the theme of Britain after Brexit. The event is titled ‘Our Nation’s Future: Loughborough Youth Creative Visions’.
Organised by Loughborough University’s Nationalism Network, the event is part of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Social Sciences Festival 2017 and takes place from 6 – 10 November.
As Britain prepares for leaving the EU, politicians are planning what the future of the UK will be post-exit. The views of young people in Loughborough and the surrounding areas will be expressed at this exhibition and discussion panel through artworks, including sculptures, posters and even a video game.
Students from De Lisle School, Loughborough College, Rawlins Academy, Charnwood Arts and Frenzy Youth Theatre have all contributed to the collection.
The exhibition will run throughout the week and will be open for viewing from 11am-4pm each day in the Martin Hall Exhibition Space at the University.
The panel debate will take place on Friday 10 November at the Sir Robert Martin Theatre from 4pm-6:30pm. It will include academics from the School of Arts, English and Drama and the School of Geographical, Political and Social Sciences, alongside local MP Nicky Morgan. They will be commenting on the different artworks displayed and the messages they portray, as well as taking questions from the audience about ‘Britain after Brexit’ based on research, policy and personal views.
