Legendary musical to be broadcast live from National Theatre

LU Arts will host a live screening of National Theatre Live: Follies on Thursday 16 November at the Cope Auditorium from 7pm.

Follies tells the story of a group of women who reunite for drinks, music and lies before their iconic building, the Weismann Theatre in New York, is to be demolished some thirty years after their final performance.

Starring Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton as the magnificent Follies, Stephen Sondheim’s musical features a cast of 37 as well as a 21-strong orchestra.

Sondheim’s previous work includes Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music and Sunday in the Park with George, all of which have contributed to his collection of Academy, Olivier and Grammy awards.

The Independent describes Follies as “Jaw-droppingly great” (★★★★★), with the Guardian commenting “Imelda Staunton is unforgettable in Sondheim’s showbiz stunner” (★★★★★).

The performance has a certificate of 12a.

General tickets are £10, which can be booked online or at the LU Arts Box Office at Loughborough Town Hall on 01509 231914.
