Advanced Technology Innovation Centre connects college students to businesses

Loughborough University’s Advanced Technology Innovation Centre (ATIC) in collaboration with Segura organised an event on 13 October where students from De Lisle College had the opportunity to network with businesses.

Peter Needle, Chief Executive Officer at Segura (one of the companies based at ATIC), is also an Enterprise Advisor for De Lisle College and aims to build up students’ confidence when speaking to professionals.

One of the College’s objectives is that all students are ready for their next phase of life when leaving, whether that is going to university or entering the world of work.

The students were able to network with campus partners over coffee and cake before being split into four groups to visit four separate companies. These were:

  • Likemindmedia – a digital marketing agency specialising in social media, photography and video
  • Segura – a company providing businesses with deeper insights into their manufacturing supply chain
  • Nemaura Pharma – creators of drug delivery systems utilising micro and nano systems
  • Cenex – consultancy and project delivery agency specialising in low carbon vehicles and fuels.

Of the event, Peter said: “Hopefully by the end of the sessions, students will see that business and work is not quite so intimidating after all, and maybe one or two will be inspired to become entrepreneurs and start their own businesses at the ATIC”.

Andrew Bowler, Innovation Centre Manager at Loughborough University commented: “The De Lisle students contributed to a lively coffee morning and made a great effort to engage with our campus partners.

“We were pleased to be able to facilitate this opportunity with Segura and look forward to further events in the future.”
