Childcare vouchers are changing

Following a review of support for working families, the Government has confirmed that the existing childcare voucher scheme will be replaced by a Tax-Free Childcare scheme (TFC) from April 2018.

TFC was initially launched in April 2017 as a gradual roll-out. It will be different to childcare vouchers and will not be offered through employers.

Currently, childcare vouchers are a Government-approved, tax-efficient way of paying for childcare. By joining the University’s childcare voucher scheme you can exchange up to £243 a month for childcare vouchers.

The University’s existing scheme will continue to run for parents who are already a member, but will close to new entrants from April 2018. After this, TFC will be the only childcare voucher option available (if you are eligible).

If you are a parent, the University wants you to have the opportunity to opt into the scheme that works best for you. If you find you would be better off with childcare vouchers, you will need to sign up before the deadline.

For more information, HR will be running an employee awareness session on Monday 27 November from 12:30pm-1:30pm in the James France Building (room CC.0.12). This will be an opportunity to ask any questions and learn more about the choices you have. You can book onto this session on My.HR by following this link.
