Undergraduate Open Days - Alternative staff parking initiative

Dear colleagues

As many of you will know, at the end of the week (Friday 30 June and Saturday 1 July) the University will be hosting its first set of open days for 2017. I’m delighted to report that we are experiencing a significant amount of interest from prospective students and their families in attending these events.

With this in mind, I write to you today to discuss ways in which you can help the University make our guests visit to campus as good as it can be.

There will be a significant amount of traffic on campus during the open days and I wanted to highlight to you a number of ways in which you can help us to reduce this by adjusting your usual routines for getting to work.

Sustainable ways of getting to work

There are a number of great ways to get to campus without bringing your car. Why not try cycling, walking (or running!), or catching the Kinch Bus? The service is free of charge to use during the open days (7.30am to 6.00pm).

If you chose a sustainable way to get to work snap a picture and tweet us @SustainLboro using the hashtag #LboroOpenDay  - the team would love to see them!

Car sharing

If you do need to use your car to get to work, I would encourage you to consider car sharing with colleagues that live nearby to reduce the number of vehicles parking on campus (a thought not just for open days). There will be a number of car parks dedicated for staff parking. These are:

  • William Morris Car Park (Garendon Road entrance) - LE11 3US
  • Harry French Car Parks (both sides) - LE11 3UN
  • The Holt Car Parks - LE11 3JB

Anyone choosing a sustainable travel option or car sharing can claim a free breakfast roll (including vegetarian option). Download the information PDF to find out more.

Working from home

Those colleagues who spend some time working from home as part of their usual week may want to consider moving their work from home day to the Friday on the week of the open day – please speak to your line manager or head of department about how this would work with your schedule and the wider team.

Many thanks to those who took part in this initiative last year - I hope you will be able to support it again at the events this month.
