Overton Poetry Prize

1 Aug 2017

Overton Poetry Prize deadline approaching

The Overton Poetry Prize, an annual competition run by the University’s School of Arts, is open for submissions until 1 September.

The competition requires entrants to submit a sequence of poems on any subject, up to 300 lines. The winning sequence will be published in chapbook form by the University’s Lamplight Press and will be made available to purchase from the University’s online store.

The competition was established in memory of Professor Bill Overton (1946-2012), a world-respected English scholar and a former head of department at Loughborough University.

Much of Professor Overton’s teaching and writing was on poetry, and the proceeds from the competition will fund an early career poet in residence; giving them the opportunity to undertake a residency and students the chance to work with an inspiring mentor.

In addition to the overall prize, the competition will also offer two further prizes of £50. Entries can be submitted online or via post.

Online entries and payment of fee (£12 per sequence of poetry) can be made via the University’s online store.

Hard copy entries must be accompanied by a cheque to Loughborough University, FAO: Lizzie Hobbs, LU Arts, Martin Hall, Loughborough University, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 3TU.

The competition will close on 1 September 2017, and the winner will be announced at the end of September.

Any queries should be directed to Lizzie Hobbs.
