Loughborough student launches new app for planning social events

A Loughborough University student has recently launched an app that can help to plan a night out.

Lee Quinn, 35, currently studies Sports Coaching at the University.

The idea originated from disappointed nights out with friends when venues they had planned to visit were too full. The app, Capacity, allows users to track down venues and view their capacity, as well as see ratings and opening times for numerous establishments.

Now available in Loughborough, Leicester and soon Liverpool, Lee told Niche magazine in a recent interview how encouraging the support from venues has been.

He said: “The response has been so positive so far, bars and restaurants are getting on board thick and fast knowing its value to them as a venue in keeping their patrons informed.”

Although Lee has faced challenges alongside the app venture, such as studying for his degree and looking after a young family, he has proved what hard work and dedication can achieve and is starting to make himself known around the local business community.

Lee took part in the Apply Yourself competition in 2016, organised by Loughborough Students’ Union, which provides students with the opportunity to gain professional mentoring and business support to develop an app idea into a live product.

The innovative technology has also led to Lee being highly commended at the recent Student Enterprise Awards hosted by the University and Students’ Union in May, for the category of Entrepreneurial Undergraduate of the Year. The annual awards event celebrates students with advanced business skills and forward-thinking entrepreneurship.
