Historic Loughborough building set to transform into creative hub
An empty historic building in Loughborough will be given a new lease of life this weekend as it begins its transformation into a creative hub.
The site on Frederick Street is set to become ‘The Generator’, a base designed to support individuals and small companies across a range of creative sectors in Loughborough.
This weekend, a launch to test out the building’s future form is taking place as part of Loughborough University’s Radar arts programme. Architects STEALTH Unlimited are working with local participants to develop structures to make an exhibition area, a stage, a kitchen, workshop facilities and more.
In addition, there will also be a range of activities happening within in the newly designed exhibition area including comic cover creation and creative writing.
The building, which was previously home to Loughborough University’s School of the Arts, will be open to members of the public. Local business owners and residents will have the opportunity to discuss how the building might work to meet different needs and interests.
Kevin Ryan of Charnwood Arts who are one of the partners in the Generator initiative said: "This building offers a fantastic opportunity to create something that will stimulate the town centre and promote activity linking the University and the town. Our vision is wider than the building itself and encompasses many other possibilities for the creative development of Loughborough."
Nick Slater, Director of Arts at Loughborough University, added: “It would be great if STEALTH Unlimited were able to help ensure that this building remains a creative space.”
