Masters student wins Next Generation Women Leaders award

Final year Aeronautical Engineering Masters student, Shakti Patel, has won an international leadership award for the Next Generation Women Leaders scholarship programme.

The award, developed by McKinsey and Company, a leading global consultancy and strategy firm, is designed to encourage young female talent from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa to use their skills to make a positive change in their lives and those of others.

Shakti, who is currently doing an erasmus semester at the Institute for Fluid Mechanics at the Dresden University of Technology in Germany, was selected as one of three to receive the award in the UK, and one of 25 winners across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

In 2014, Shakti also received an Engineering Leadership Advanced Award from the Royal Academy of Engineering and holds an undergraduate scholarship from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

On her award, Shakti comments: “I am motivated by the use of technology to create positive global change. The award will provide me with a platform from which to launch my leadership journey and to highlight that global growth can only be achieved through gender parity. I am a firm believer in value-led leadership and this is an opportunity to act as a role model for other young women and to prove that an Engineer does not always have to look as you might expect!”
