Academic called as expert witness at the House of Commons

Senior Lecturer in Criminology, Dr Jamie Cleland, was invited as an expert witness to the first meeting of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee's inquiry into homophobia in sport at the House of Commons.

Dr Cleland was called upon based on his extensive research looking at the external culture of football which includes fans attending matches, engaging in online discussions and the role and influence of journalists.

His research has found a changing cultural context that mirrors national surveys in terms of widespread evidence of decreasing homophobia both in sport but also wider society.

Jamie also appeared on the BBC Victoria Derbyshire programme, as well as appearing in an article in the Guardian and on the BBC.
