Academic paper receives prestigious award

Professor Thorsten Gruber, School of Business and Economics, has won a prestigious award for his article on the use of social media by millennials.

The article, entitled Understanding Generation Y and Their Use of Social Media: A Review and Research Agenda, received the 2016 Emerald Citations of Excellence Award from Emerald Group Publishing.

Professor Gruber’s article provides an overview of how ‘millennials’ or ‘Gen Y’ utilise social media and whether this will be a precursor to future behaviour. It has been published in the Journal of Service Management (JOSM, Impact Factor: 2.0) and also received the Robert Johnson Award by JOSM in 2013.

It has been cited 160 times and has been downloaded more than 27,000 times from JOSM’s website – the highest of all JOSM articles in 2013 - 2016.

The article has also topped the Loughborough University’s most downloaded item’s list with more than 12,000 downloads in the three years since publication.
