Staff volunteers wanted for 2016 School Games National Final

The 2016 School Games National Finals are taking place on campus this year from Thursday 1 September – Sunday 4 September and staff volunteers are needed!

A range of volunteers are required to help support the event including coordinating, driving and media volunteers.

This is your opportunity to take part in an incredible event which brings together 1,600 of the UK’s best young athletes for four days of sporting competition. The Games have been a launch pad for many elite athletes. Last year, attendees included alumni Dina Asher-Smith, Adam Peaty, Ellie Simmonds and Hannah Cockroft.

Through the University’s policy on employer supported volunteering, staff members can apply for up to one working day (one day paid absence) to undertake approved volunteer work. Staff members who want to support the School Games for the duration of the event (four days), are eligible to take up to two working days volunteer leave for the event, but must also commit two days of their own time.

Two training sessions are running in both May and July. You must be able to attend one.

  • Saturday 7 May training session (deadline for applications Sunday 24 April)
  • Saturday 9 July training session (deadline for applications Friday 24 June)

The release of employees from work to participate in voluntary work must be balanced against the demands and priorities of the department or school. Staff members must seek approval from their line manager before applying for a volunteer role at the Games.
