National student journalist event to take place at Loughborough

The Student Publication Association National Conference (SPANC16) is coming to Loughborough for a weekend of networking, awards and talks from leading industry professionals.

The Student Publication Association is the national body that represents student publications and journalists across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

This year, their annual conference will take place at Loughborough and will include a range of speakers including ‘reformed’ Tabloid Journalist, Bill Coles, Sky News Journalist, David Levesley, and Prima and Good Housekeeping feature writer, Ella Dove.

The event, taking place 8-10 April, will provide attendees with the opportunity to attend lectures, workshops and Q&A sessions.

Katie Wilson, Label Editor and SPANC organiser, comments: "SPANC will see 150 student journalists from over 30 different student publications across the country arrive in Loughborough over the weekend.

“This year is the biggest SPANC conference yet, and we're very proud to be hosting it. Awards at the event are being judged by people in the industry from places such as News Associates, Press Association and the Times, with talks from a wide range of magazines, newspapers and freelancers.

“I for one am really looking forward to the weekend of conference events and the awards night in the Students' Union on Saturday evening. It has been a pleasure organising this as an extra-curricular and voluntary venture alongside the rest of the SPANC team and the association and I believe that it is a massive achievement for Label to be hosting this year."
