Professor Robert Wears to present guest lecture on patient safety

Professor Robert Wears is set to present a guest lecture, titled The rise and fall of patient Safety, on Tuesday 3 May.

Dr Wears is an emergency physician, Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Florida, and Visiting Professor in the Clinical Safety Research Unit at Imperial College London.

He serves on the board of directors of the Emergency Medicine Patient Safety Foundation, and multiple editorial boards. His research interests include technical work studies, resilience engineering, and patient safety as a social movement.

The subject of his lecture, improving patient safety, has been a recent focus of the NHS. Improving Safety through Education and Training is the first NHS report to focus on how education and training interventions can actively improve the safety of patients.

The University recently launched a new qualification for Human Factors and Ergonomics in Patient Safety to help equip healthcare staff with knowledge to tackle patient safety issues using human factors.

The lecture will take place at 11am - 1.45pm at the Loughborough Design School, LDSO17 and will be followed by an expert panel discussion on Human Factors in healthcare: firefighting to culture change.
