Loughborough wins Gold at East Midlands in bloom awards
Loughborough has been judged Best Small City at the East Midlands in Bloom awards.
During a ceremony held at Rutland Water Golf Course on 16 September, Loughborough was announced category winners with 181 points.
This marks the 7th year that the University has been one of the partners of Loughborough in Bloom.
The theme of this year’s competition celebrated the 100th anniversary of Ladybird books. The swimming pool bed was planted as a giant ladybird, with the other flower beds across campus designed by some of the gardeners.
Assistant Grounds and Gardens Supervisor, Karen Setchell, talked to judges about the university, guiding them through its gardens and woodlands.
Karen comments: “The judges stopped off at the university’s Landscape and Garden Society which is one of the ‘It’s your Neighbourhood’ community groups. They were taken aback with the walled gardens on the central park which looked superb thanks to the time and effort put in by Ian, the gardener responsible for that area.”
