Remembrance memorial on Hazlerigg-Rutland lawn

The University has joined forces with Loughborough Students’ Union to create a memorial on the Hazlerigg-Rutland lawn to honour those who have lost their lives serving their country.

The structure is being showcased ahead of Remembrance Day on Wednesday 11 November. It has been created in conjunction with the Royal British Legion and the aim is for the lawn to become a field of poppies creating a true mark of respect for fallen war heroes.

For a donation of £5, staff and students are invited to add a personal tribute to help create a spectacular field of remembrance poppies. Your poppy will be displayed in the lead up to Remembrance Day 2015.

On the anniversary of the end of the First World War, we remember both those who fought in wars and also the British Servicemen and women killed or injured since 1945. The project has taken its inspiration from the field of poppies that was on display at the Tower of London last year.

Poppies will be on sale daily in the Rag Office (First floor in Loughborough Students’ Union) between 10am and 2pm. They will also be available to purchase daily from reception in the Hazlerigg Building, next to the lawn where the poppies are being showcased. Alternatively, contact Steph Noble (s.noble@lboro.ac.uk or 222923) or Jane Turner (janeturner@lsu.co.uk or 635037) to discuss arrangements.
