Loughborough cricketers defeated in final of international Twenty20 event

Loughborough MCCU has finished as the runners-up in the prestigious Red Bull Campus Cricket World Twenty20 Finals after defeat to South African side Tuks from Pretoria University.

Representing England in the eight-team tournament which brings the best University sides in the world together, Loughborough MCCU defeated teams representing Australia and Bangladesh to qualify for the knockout stages.

Victory over Sri Lankan side ICBT Campus by 8 wickets saw Loughborough comfortably qualify for the final.

In the final, played in Dehradun India, Loughborough reached 120-9 after their 20 overs. But Tuks, who were the defending champions, reached the winning total with three overs to spare.

Loughborough is one of six university cricket academies in the UK called MCCUs which have received funding from the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) since 2005.

The Loughborough MCCU team qualified for the international tournament earlier this summer after defeating Durham in the semis and Oxford in the final to claim the national university T20 title.
