Student wins Harvard Stem Cell Institute Internship

Arianna Rech, a Chemical Engineering undergraduate, has been awarded a fully funded place on the prestigious summer internship programme at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, USA.

Judges, comprising academic and commercial organisations from around the UK, scrutinised applications and announced that the internship bursary has been awarded to Arianna. Her application detailed her interests in regenerative medicine, developing testing methods and tissue engineering and the honour it would be to attend Harvard for the summer.

Arianna said: "It will be an amazing opportunity – a dream coming true. I'm thrilled at the prospect of experiencing a regenerative medicine research project at Harvard, one of the world's most prestigious universities, where the two worlds of engineering skills and the medical field can be combined."

Prof Nick Medcalf, Director of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Regenerative Medicine, said: "We received many excellent applications and our judging panel had a very difficult job making their selection. We wish Arianna all the best for her internship. Our Centre is very pleased to collaborate with Harvard in this important initiative.”
