Athena SWAN Planning Officer appointed

Sam Kirk has been appointed as Athena SWAN Planning Officer.

Previously employed at the University of Liverpool, Sam Kirk will be responsible for leading the institutional Athena SWAN bronze award. His role will include co-ordinating the renewal of the award and ensuring that gender equality actions are carried out.

He will provide central support to the School Athena SWAN teams when applying for departmental awards and carrying out their actions post award. Sam will also provide support in the University and School/Departmental submissions, as well as updating the Athena SWAN webpages and supporting events.

Commenting on his new appointment, Sam said: “This role is really exciting. Increasing the number of women in STEMM is still as important as it’s ever been, if not more so. The low numbers of women working and studying in STEMM is an issue that receives significant media attention.

“Increasing the number of women in STEMM and making a career in STEMM fair for all is important for both Loughborough and the UK. Athena SWAN is about recognising our challenges and to improve it needs the support and engagement from everyone at the University.”
