Student projects selected for the Santander Universities 60 second pitch finals

Design School student Lewis Webber and Sahil Jhamb, School of Business and Economics, are appealing for your votes to help secure a winning spot in the Santander Universities 60 second pitch finals.

The Santander Universities 60 Second Pitch Awards identify and support great ideas and start-up businesses. Once selected as a top ten finalist, projects need to secure votes to help select the winners of the prize money and Santander support.

Lewis’ project, Expanding Table, allows busy restaurants to accommodate the needs of the customer by offering a solution to space restrictions. The LAFW DESIGNS product is a two-seater table that can be expanded to become a four-seater table with ease. Made from one thickness of material, it is easily assembled and enables commercial businesses the flexibility to cope with different volumes of customers.

Sahil’s project, myINDIA, is a social enterprise project from the Enactus society which is working with the Russ Foundation in South India to help unemployed women develop vital business skills through selling Biomass Briquettes in the local area.

Biomass Briquettes have been developed to combat the deaths caused by using firewood and charcoal as a source of fuel. The briquettes are environmentally sustainable and provide a source of income for women. The product is non-profit, with everything earned reinvested into expanding myINDIA and Russ Foundation programmes.
