Final stages of Epinal Way roundabout work

The work on Loughborough’s Epinal Way/Forest Road roundabout enters its final phase this week.

The entire roundabout will be resurfaced over the next two weekends starting from Friday 3 October.

To enable this work to happen:

  • The Forest Road east arm of the roundabout will be closed from 8pm on Friday 3 October until 6am on Monday 6 October.
  • The Forest Road west arm of the roundabout will be closed from 8pm on Friday 10 October until 6am on Monday 13 October.

Temporary three-way traffic lights will control each arm of the roundabout while the work takes place and diversion routes will redirect traffic.

Peter Osborne, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “By working over the weekends, we are able to minimise disruption, although I’m aware that some people will be inconvenienced, for which we apologise. Ultimately, these works will deliver a transformation in the town’s traffic network, providing benefits for everyone. We’re into the final stages of the work now, so I’d like to thank everyone for their patience whilst the improvements have been undertaken.”

This work is one of the final phases to increase the capacity of the roundabout, improve traffic flow and provide better control of traffic movements by the use of traffic signals.

The roundabout has been widened, with toucan crossings added on all arms of the roundabout for pedestrians and cyclists. Cyclists have also been provided with better facilities on and off the carriageway to help them travel safely through the junction.

The final phase of the work will be to fine tune the traffic lights which will control each arm of the roundabout.
