Loughborough Swimming top the podium at BUCS Champs

Loughborough Students have retained their titles at the BUCS Short Course Swimming Championships in Sheffield.

Commonwealth and European gold medallist Adam Barrett claimed a double in the 50m and 100m butterfly and second place in the in the 200m freestyle.

Joe Elwood claimed a hat-trick of titles, by winning the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke events. There was a double gold medal winning performance by Emma Wilkins in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

In the men’s breaststroke events Richard Spoor won the 50m and was joint first in the 100m. Olympian Laurent Carnol sprinted to a new Luxembourg record in the 50m event and claimed victory in the 200m, just ahead of team mate Richard Spoor.

There were also two Isle of Man national records for Laura Kinley in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events.

The efforts of the whole team ensured that the men’s, women’s and overall titles once again returned to Loughborough.
