Deans appointed for three Schools

Deans have now been appointed for the Schools of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering; the Arts, English and Drama; and Science. For the first time since moving to the new School structure, the Deans have been appointed from a field of internal and external candidates.

Professor Rachel Thomson has been appointed as Dean of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering.

In 2014 Professor Thomson became Acting Dean of the School, having previously been Director of the Materials Research School from 2006 to 2013 and Head of the Department of Materials from 2011 to 2013.

Professor Alison Yarrington has been appointed as Dean of the School of the Arts, English and Drama.

Professor Yarrington will join Loughborough from the University of Hull, where she is currently Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, a post she has held since 2011. Prior to this she spent eight years at the University of Glasgow, as Head of the History of Art Department and latterly Director of the Institute for Art History within the College of Culture and Creative Arts. She was also at the University of Leicester until 2003, where her posts included Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Head of the History of Art Department.

Professor Mark Biggs has been appointed as the Dean of the School of Science.

Professor Biggs is currently at the University of Adelaide in Australia, where he has been Director of the Bio and Nanoengineering Faculty Research Group since 2009. He was Head of Adelaide’s School of Chemical Engineering for a four year period until 2013, and held both Deputy Head and Director of Research roles within the School in 2009.
