Message from the Chief Operating Officer - Comments on Facebook 'Spotted' and other social media

With exams just around the corner, I wanted to remind you that students should not post inappropriate comments or offensive material on social media sites such as the ‘Spotted’ Facebook pages, which have been set up during previous exam periods. Any student considering posting material is strongly advised to refer to the University’s acceptable use of IT policy and harassment and bullying policy before doing so.

The University will take disciplinary action if these policies are breached.

It is also important that you are aware that employers will search the web for references to job applicants and having your name associated with offensive or inappropriate comments or material may well damage your employment prospects.

We are committed to providing an environment where our students, staff and visitors can work, study and live without intimidation and harassment. If you wish to talk to someone about these matters you can contact a member of the University’s Confide team or the Students’ Union’s Vice President: Welfare.

Finally, can I wish all students the best of luck in their exams, and a happy revision period.

Richard Taylor, University Chief Operating Officer
