Professor Rob Parkin to leave Loughborough

Professor Rob Parkin, Dean of the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, is to leave the University. He has been appointed as Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the University of Bradford.

Rob has worked at Loughborough for 20 years, joining as Professor of Mechatronics in 1994. During his time as Head and subsequently Dean of the Wolfson School, applications to School programmes have doubled and the research portfolio has increased by over 90% to around £10.5 million. Rob was also part of the team responsible for the award of Loughborough’s seventh Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2013 for High Value Manufacturing.

The Provost will take steps to appoint an Acting Dean to cover any interregnum between Professor Parkin’s departure and the appointment of a permanent replacement. The recruitment process adopted for the recent Dean appointments to Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering, the Arts, English and Drama, and Science will be followed to attract the very highest quality of internal and external candidates.
