Sam called into provisional England squad for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

Loughborough University graduate and former MCCU player Sam Billings has been called into the England 30-man preliminary squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

Sam, a wicket-keeper/batsman, has spent the early winter in Sri Lanka and South Africa having been selected onto the England Performance Programme following an eye catching season with Kent.

The 23 year old year old finished as fourth highest run scorer in the Royal London 50 over competition with a top score of 135 and an average of 114 in the competition including a hundred and four fifties.

These performances and his aggressive brand of batting saw him selected onto the England Performance Programme where he has continued to impress.

Sam has also been selected for the England Lions tour to South Africa in January.

Sallian Briggs Cricket Performance Manager & Women's Head Coach at Loughborough University said:

“I am absolutely delighted for Sam. It was evident when he was on the MCCU programme that he had potential. Hopefully this is the start of an incredibly exciting journey for him.

“Sam was one of the last players to be coached by Graham Dilley at Loughborough, before he sadly passed away. I know that Dill would have been proud of Sam’s call-up and I can just imagine him saying to me 'I told you so'.

“We all wish Sam the best.”
