Loughborough student signs professional football contract

Loughborough University student George Williams has signed an 18-month contract with football league division one club Barnsley.

After joining Loughborough from MK Dons, George had two successful seasons in the Midland Alliance and captained the Students to BUCS victory in 2013.

George moved onto Worcester City where he won Player of the Year in his first season and was pivotal role in the club’s FA Cup run this season, which included defeating league 1 team Coventry City in the 1st round.

"It hasn't really sunk in to be honest. I'm absolutely delighted to be here.” said George. "I only heard about the interest a couple of days ago and now I'm here, so it's been a bit of a whirlwind."

George also pointed to the role that both Loughborough and Worcester have played in his return to a league club, and the pathway the non-league programme can provide by stating:

“Loughborough proved a fantastic place for me to go and study after leaving MK Dons.

“The experience there in the non-league set-up enabled me to push back into football at Conference North and now professional level.”
