Academic members of staff

What will happen if I only need to come onto campus for in-person teaching?

All academic staff will be expected to spend reasonable amounts of time on campus. Attending campus to deliver in-person teaching only will not be acceptable. It is important that at Loughborough we maintain the vibrant campus feel and the presence of our academic colleagues helps us to achieve this.

I am an international member of staff, can I work from my home outside of the UK?

There are a number of tax implications for staff working overseas so any arrangements like this will need to be approved following the University’s global mobility approval process. Please speak to your Dean about this.

Will I have somewhere to go to when I have a student in distress?

There will be no changes to workspaces in the first instance. After a review of Phase 1, space is likely to be reconsidered. Academic members of staff who work dynamically may not have the sole use of an office going forward. However, we will ensure that access to private spaces is available and  can be used when required for such instances.

As an Academic member of staff, I have always been allowed to manage my own time and choice of work location, do I need to have a formal conversation with the Dean to ratify this can continue?

The Dean has set an expected proportion of time spent on campus for all Academic members of staff in your school. If your current pattern is broadly in line with this then there is no need have a formal conversation with the Dean to ratify this (unless you want to), although you should let your Operations Manager know your proportion of time spent on campus so that it is recorded. If your current pattern involves less time on campus than the Dean has indicated is required, you may need to have a conversation with them if you wish to continue as you are.

Will the Dean hold meetings with each individual academic colleague?

The Dean will only hold meetings with those staff that request a meeting or whose proposed working pattern would result in them being on campus less often than the Dean has determined is necessary to allow proper deliver of the school’s needs.
