Update for students - 15 February 2021
The second semester started last week.
Before you read further please go online to watch a short film that we have made to say thank you to you and to recognise how the University community has pulled together in the most challenging of circumstances.
This has already been circulated to finalists, but it reminds us how well the University community has come together. I want to thank you for your positive approach to University life this academic year. It has not been easy but as the film shows, everyone can be proud of their contribution to Loughborough and the enviable reputation the University has as a result of our resilience, community spirit and can do attitude. As I look out of my office window on the top floor of Hazlerigg Building I see the campus slowly coming back to life but it will be a while yet before we fully return to the lively hive of activity which we are all accustomed to.
We have previously said that all taught students would receive an email this week outlining our plans for gradually reopening our two campuses. The Prime Minister will announce changes to the guidance for universities on (we think) 22nd February. This message will be central to our determination of what we can do and when we can do it and we will now write after this date with details of any changes taking place from 8th March. Please note that I am especially aware of the challenges students currently overseas may face in returning and we will engage directly with you about what is and is not possible.
Whatever we advise you our plan is, we shall continue to maintain our rigorous health and safety measures. In doing so we know that both students and staff will be as safe as possible. I hope that we can all celebrate the latter part of the academic year together in conditions much closer to normal, including end of year festivities.
